ABOUT ME

I was a baby nurse to the rich & famous for a couple of decades traveling the world caring for newborn babies - waking every 2-3 hours to feed & soothe them. Something we are only meant to do for a few months: I did it for a couple of decades. So like most new mothers I was in a perpetual state of exhaustion. I inherited a pretty shot nervous system which I believe we largely get from genetics & the state of embodiment our mother is in during our time in the womb so I’ve lived most of my life in ‘fight or flight’ so all the healing I had been doing wasn’t accessible because my nervous system was shot. The result being that I was’t able to properly FEEL my emotions or my body.
I’ve learned from my own experiences that the first step is dealing with your nervous system. You have to deal with the physical body & the vagus nerve first. It takes work for me to be embodied. Add to that a collection of injuries some examples- a cracked ribs from a surfing accident, hips that went out constantly from birthing my 2 beautiful daughters & joint pain that I inherited from a family history of Rheumatoid Arthritis so I just figured - like my father I was destined to suffer from joint pain.
.
Now I have NO PAIN whatsoever, I’m strong & most importantly - I AM EMBODIED. This is what I have to offer. I’m not the younger super thin teachers you may see online, I’ve lived through some hard stuff but overcoming & learning to soothe my nervous system - that’s what informs my work here. That knowledge is what I put into every adjustment & cue. That’s what people tell me, that a cue they received from me changed the way they do something they’ve done for years & now they feel better, they’re able to grow stronger.
After decades of searching it was the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra that started my nervous system toward -rest & digest. You can find many Yoga Nidra’s under the RELAXATION playlist. When you’re feeling tired, cranky, strung out or reaching for sweets mid afternoon - instead try a Yoga Nidra - it’s like taking a nap for people who can’t nap.
If you’ve never done a relaxation before this could change your life. We don’t automatically relax when we rest or sleep. It takes mindfulness to relax especially when your nervous system is used to being in a trauma response which sadly many of us live in. Meditations can feel too hard or too much - they did for me. Even with a brilliant mother who, in my opinion, is one of the best meditation teachers out there.
I see Yoga Nidra & guided relaxations as an accessible doorway into your healing. It’s much easier than meditation - all you need to do is lay down close your eyes & listen.
I work with a lot of Seniors because they’re from the generation of taking care of others & the idea of self-kindness is often an uncomfortable one. So my Chair Yoga’s are focused on retraining the mindset to lean into self-care as well as the physical movement. We know now that self-care is not selfish. Taking care of yourself makes you a better friend, parent, grandparent, a better citizen.
It’s about learning to listen to your body first. You can practice yoga for decades & not get that. It is meant to be so much more that just the Asanas & often people need regular cues to get that ‘more’ experience.
This community is about supporting each other as we all move into wholeness together.
